Boston Indoor Time Trial Reaches Zambia

Posted in: Uncategorized

Boston Triathlon Team Indoor Time Trial

The Boston Triathlon Team, with the help of some local sponsors including Landry’s Bikes, held their second annual “Boston Triathlon Team Indoor Time Trial” on February 21st, 2010. This year, the team decided to send a portion of the race proceeds to World Bicycle Relief and we’re honored to share that, come the last racer across the finish line, the team raised $750.00 for World Bicycle Relief - enough money to ensure that over 5 more students in Zambia will be able to bike to school versus walk – as the money will go towards World Bicycle Relief’s Bicycles for Educational Empowerment Program (BEEP) that will deliver 50,000 bicycles to rural Zambia to improve education access.

Now, a few words about the Time Trial: the event sold-out to a field of 208 athletes ranging from 19 to 68, representing 5 states and even Dublin, Ireland. The race was an indoor 10K cycling race which took place on Computrainers, computerized bike trainers that simulate the elevation and turns of a real course. Large scoreboards showed the course and location of the riders, as well as the rider’s speed, power and distance covered. The event winners were Boston’s Matt  Pokress and Manchester NH’s Molly Zahr. Congratulations to all who participated and made this donation to World Bicycle Relief possible.

Special thanks goes to the event’s major sponsors including Landry’s Bikes, Blackstone Valley Human Performance, Boston Performance Coaching, CycleOps Power, Marathon Sports and OWater.
