World Bicycle Relief Buffalo Bicycles Named Schwab Foundation 2013 Social Entrepreneur of the Year

The Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship and World Economic Forum have recognized our manufacturing subsidiary, Buffalo Bicycle Company with the 2013 award for social entrepreneurship. The Entrepreneur of the Year award acknowledges innovative approaches and outstanding work in health, education, employment and the environment.
As a wholly owned subsidiary of World Bicycle Relief, the Buffalo Bicycle Company manufactures the specially-designed Buffalo Bicycles. Purpose-built for rugged terrain and heavy loads, these bikes help people better access education, healthcare and economic opportunity. Currently, focused on rural Africa, our impact areas include communities in Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Mozambique, Angola, South Sudan, South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe and Zambia. And to date, we have distributed over 124,000 Buffalo Bicycles!
“Many in rural Africa are faced with the constant challenges of daily survival: limited water, food, and fuel, as well as inadequate access to education and healthcare. Access to transportation through the Power of Bicycles is helping people overcome these challenges. This award speaks to the Power of Bicycles, to our operational model, and to our international team, partners and advocates who make a significant impact possible,” said F.K. Day, President and Founder of The Buffalo Bicycle Company and World Bicycle Relief, who was granted the Social Entrepreneur of Year award on behalf of the organization.
