Blue Ridge ‘Triple Threat’ MTB Series set to raise funds for World Bicycle Relief

by World Bicycle Relief

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (April 10, 2007) – Promising “suffering … and no place for your body to rest,” the Blue Ridge Triple Threat Mountain Bike Series is poised to challenge racers with fun and exciting courses, while giving them a great opportunity to support a worthy cause.

The series kicks off on Sunday, April 22, with “Ride the Ridge” at Blue Ridge School, outside Charlottesville. Proceeds from that race will be donated to World Bicycle Relief, a charity that provides bicycles to volunteer, community-based HIV/AIDS care workers in Zambia, Africa.

Prizes for that race have been donated by SRAM Corporation, one of the lead sponsors of World Bicycle Relief.

The first-year Triple Threat Series is a collaboration between Blue Ridge School’s mountain bike team, the Charlottesville Racing Club and the University of Virginia’s Mountain Biking Club. Each group is hosting an event, with the UVA MTB O-hill Meltdown on April 29 and the CRC Chimney Challenge on May 20.

Half the proceeds of the CRC event in Walnut Creek will also be donated to World Bicycle Relief, and the series as a whole is committed to raising awareness within the mountain bike community.

Points will be awarded to the top 20 finishers in each race, with overall series winners in 12 categories. More information about the races is available on the Charlottesville Racing Club’s web site at www.cvilleracing.org.
